We won’t call off the strike unless… – Medical lab workers
The President of the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers Union, Dr. Franklin Amartey Armaah has categorically stated that Union will not call off their strike.
The Ministry of Health had called on the Union to call off their strike as negotiations have not reached a deadlock.
According to the Ministry, it is therefore surprising that the lab scientists have declared a strike.
The lab scientists have expressed their dissatisfaction with their condition of service.
But speaking to Host Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang on New York-based Adinkra Radio Morning Show, Dr. Franklin Amartey Armaah slammed the Health Ministry for disrespecting them, adding that they will only call off their strike and sit and negotiate if the government is ready to consider their demands.
He questioned why the Ministry chose to speak to them through a press statement and not directly as they did to the Ministry through a letter.
“If the Ministry respects us, they would not have addressed us through a press statement. If the Ministry treats us with respect and acts in a manner showing good faith they wouldn’t have addressed us through the media. The Ministry’s conduct has angered our members the more. The Ministry has not been fair to us. They treated us with disrespect. For two weeks, the Ministry failed to engage us, but after we declared strike, it has found time to issue a press conference on a holiday. Our members have warned us the leadership that we should don’t dare call off the strike because they feel slighted and have been treated with contempt.”
“The government did not recognize us as essential service providers to deal with our issue expeditiously. They looked on after we presented them with our grievances. We gave the government early warning about our strike but they failed to act to prevent the industrial action from being effected.”
