Voters Register: Don’t dismiss red flags raised by NDC – Mahama warns EC

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has called for every single issue raised by the party over the discrepancies in the provisional voters register to be addressed to ensure there’s no disruption in the December 7 general elections.

Addressing the Chiefs and people of the Abeazde Traditional Area in the Central Region over the weekend, the former president emphasised the need to ensure that all obstacles to peaceful elections are removed.

“We all pray for a peaceful election. Nana, I am a person of peace and I am optimistic that our election of this year will be peaceful. But we must work to make it peaceful, we must work together with the National House of Chiefs, with the National Peace Council and religious groups, civil society organizations and Electoral Commission to ensure that all the obstacles to a peaceful elections are removed. That is why the red flags that are being raised by the NDC should not be dismissed. The flags our party is raising about the voters register are issues that could create disruptions in the elections.

“We have evidence of people who registered in one polling station having their names being put under the list of another polling station. There are evidence of mysterious transfers that need to be investigated. Some peoples votes have been transferred to other constituencies without their knowledge. I know the case of Ajumako Enyan Essiam constituency where votes were transferred into the constituency illegally,”” Mr Mahama said.

He pledged that as leader of the NDC, he will do everything possible to ensure that his party contributes to a peaceful general elections on December 7, 2024.

Mr Mahama’s assurance followed concerns expressed by the Paramount Chief of Abeadze Dominase Traditional Area, Dasebre Kwebu Ewusi who urged politicians to stop putting fear in Ghanaians as the country heads to the December 7 general elections.

According to Dasebre Kwebu Ewusi, politicians have unfortunately made the country look like a military battle field, and scaring people unnecessarily.

“I know that very soon we’ll go to the general elections. Often times, politicians make pronouncements that put fear in the electorate which sometimes leave the people confused as to whether they should vote or not. I’m telling the politicians that come what may, we will vote in the elections. To my people, I want you to know that elections is not about violence, you only go and vote for the one you want to lead in the running of the country.

“Why must politicians make this simple exercise very scary for the electorates. On December 7, whoever God elects as President, I urge politicians to accept the results so we have peace in our country. I further urge them to cease the politics of insults which trigger could trigger tensions.”
