A violent clash between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disrupted the voter transfer exercise in Ejura Sekyedumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The NDC alleges that the NPP bussed in voters from other constituencies to transfer their votes to the area, leading to a confrontation that halted the registration process.
Police reinforcements were deployed to manage the chaos, but the situation remains tense.
The NDC has accused the NPP of attempting to boost their electoral fortunes in the area through fraudulent means.
In a press conference, Deputy Regional Secretary Baah Acheamfour urged NDC supporters in affected areas to resist such attempts and assured them of the party’s full support.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between Ghana’s two major political parties ahead of the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.
