Two volleyball players crushed to death by tipper truck at Odumase

The Odumase Police Command has begun investigations into the death of two young men who were crushed by a limestone tipper truck on the Oterkporlu Odumase stretch.

The young men Wisdom Gbli Horla, 24, a final-year Computer Science student at the University of Ghana, and his cousin Benedict Gbli, were both active players of the Blockbusters Volleyball Team based in Asesewa, Eastern Region.

According to sources, the two who were on their way for a volleyball game at Odumase opted to use their motorcycle instead of joining the team bus which has been provided for the entire team.

The unfortunate incident occurred while the two in an attempt to overtake a pick up truck moving ahead of them veered off their lane right at a section of the road at Ayemersu into the lane of an oncoming tipper truck descending from the direction of the Odugblase limestone mines.

The driver of the limestone-hauling tipper truck with registration number GS 521-23 however could not swerve them due to the load in his truck and the curvy nature of the road in the mountainous enclave crushing them instantly.

Personnel from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Odumase Police Command who rushed to the scene assisted to control traffic on the stretch and helped convey the remains of the victims to the St. Martin de Porres Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
