Total waste of time – Akpaloo reacts to NDC’s call for forensic audit of voter register

The flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has dismissed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) call for a forensic audit of the 2024 voters register, labelling it a waste of time and a non-starter.

Akpaloo argued that with less than three months to the December 7 elections, there is insufficient time for the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct such an audit.

The NDC has been pushing for a forensic audit, claiming that the voter register has been inflated with ineligible individuals.

However, during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, October 1, the LPG flagbearer urged the NDC to abandon its demand, stating that it would only distract from the necessary preparations for the upcoming elections.

“We have almost 65 days until the elections and EC is expected to audit the register within the next 60 days. When are we going to do this forensic audit involving 275 constituencies, 40,000 polling stations, and 18 million voters? Who is going to do this auditing in less than 60 days and so NDC, please stop this request because it will not help anybody.”

He further defended the EC, stating that the NDC’s allegation of the register being filled with ghost names will not have any negative bearing on the outcome of the December 7 polls.

“Mind you, this is a biometric register and no dead person can come out of the grave to vote and so if there is a dead person on the register, it will not affect the results so please, this one is a non-starter and you shouldn’t have even sent that request here and you have wasted everybody’s time”

“The EC too needs to be commended for the work that they did and it demonstrates the fact that it is up to the task and must be commended and I am not going to accept that human error institution excuse,” Kofi Akpaloo added.
