Suspending CPP’s constitution until Dec. 2025 will be “sacrilegious” – CPP Communications Director

The Communications Director of the Convention Peoples Party(CPP) Sylvester Sarpong has condemned moves by certain leading members of the party to allegedly suspend its constitution until December 2025, saying such a move will be “sacrilegious”.

According to him, such a decision will adversely harm the unity of the party and negatively affect its rebuilding process.

Speaking to Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman, Host of New York-based Adinkra Radio Morning show, Sylvester Sarpong stated that not even the great leader of the CPP, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah ever dreamt of suspending the party’s constitution.

“Our leaders are not doing much to help the party, people are not being held responsible. All of a sudden, you will hear that someone says he wants to suspend the party’s constitution. These are the kind of things that keep drawing the party back. The party’s steering committee that has been set up has indicated that it wants to suspend the constitution of the CPP until December 2025. This is sacrilegious, even the great Dr. Kwame Nkrumah could not suspend the constitution of the party because he did not form it for himself, he formed it for Ghanaians. So, currently, the party is in a serious situation.”

Sylvester Sarpong said what can make the CPP strong and competitive again is for Ghanaians in the diaspora to join the party and offer it critical support.

“The solution is that Ghanaians in the diaspora should simply join the CPP now. If they join the CPP now and partake in their activity some of these things cannot happen in the party. The reality in Ghana is that the economy translates into politics. The only serious party which is well oiled for elections is the New Patriotic Party because they are in government, just as NDC when they were in power ahead of the 2016 elections where money was being sprayed all over the place. Ghanaians who are financially independent in the diaspora should get involved in the CPP and save Ghana. They should get involved in the CPP and contest for positions and put their exposure to bear with all their international links to help build the party. But if they stay abroad and expect Ghanaians back home to solve the situation the party finds itself, it will be difficult,” Sylvester Sarpong stated.
