Suhum NPP clash nothing to do with Bawumia and me – Kyerematen
Alan Kyerematen
Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen has condemned the violent clashes that happened between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Suhum constituency of the Eastern Region on Saturday, 28 August 2021, describing it as “most unfortunate”.
Mr Kyeremanten, however, denied that the clashes were between his supporters and those of Vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia.
He described those reports as “completely false”, “mischievous” and “contrived to bring both the Vice-president and my good self into public ridicule.”
“I believe strongly that any disagreement, whether relating to a contest for position or differences in ideas and opinions, should not be manifested in such violence in a party such as ours”, he said.
“The ideals of our party and tradition call for peaceful and harmonious coexistence and our motto – Development in Freedom – has no place for violence,” Mr Kyerematen said in a statement.
He, therefore, urged the Suhum Constituency Executives, the Eastern Regional Executives as well as the National Executives of the party to take immediate steps to resolve the differences between the two feuding sides to restore peace and discipline in the party.
Meanwhile, the police command in Suhum is on the tail of one Jamal, a driver of the MP for Suhum for his alleged involvement in the melee.
Jamal is alleged to have slashed the head of 51-year-old Kwasi Amoani, a communicator of the party with a knife during the funeral melee on Saturday, 28 August 2021.
The victim has been receiving treatment at the emergency ward of the Suhum Government Hospital.
The mayhem was sparked by a misunderstanding between supporters of the current MP and those of an aspirant while mourning a colleague at the Suhum Council.
Another party member who got injured in the disturbance got treated at the same hospital and was later discharged.
