Road crashes: 369 deaths recorded in Ghana between Jan. to Feb. 2024
Data available to the National Road Safety Authority(NRSA) indicates that a total of 369 persons died between the months of January to February 2024, as against 330, the same period last year.
This represents an increase of 11.82%.
A total of 380 pedestrians were knocked down this year as against 381 last year, representing a reduction of 0.26%.
Whereas 2,502 were injured last year, 2,552 cases were recorded in 2024 representing an increase of 2%.
For vehicles involved in accident, a total number of 3910 cases were recorded as against 3,857 last year representing an increase of 1.37%,.
A total of reported accident cases of 2260 were recorded in 2024 as against 2249 the same period in 2023.
The data was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the NRSA, , Pearl Adusu Sateckla in an interview with Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang, Host of New York-based Adinkra Radio Morning show.
Meanwhile, she said her outfit is poised to ensure that no lives are lost through road crashes during the elections.
“We will not relax taking into consideration that this year is an election year. We will embark on massive road safety campaigns including having media engagements ahead of the elections. Our presence will also be felt on the roads to ensure that drivers do the right thing while embarking on their campaigns. We have to ensure that the gains that we’ve had since 2022 we sustain them.
“We will meet with politicians’ to educate them on how to ensure road safety. The police will also deploy cameras to detect wrongs on the road to ensure the roads are safe. We will require adequate resources to be able to achieve this.” she said.
