Parliament to probe Norway visa scandal after Paralympic team absconds
Parliament is set to probe the recent scandal involving some alleged Ghanaians Paralympic athletes said to have absconded after arrival in Oslo, Norway for the Bergen City Marathon.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Paralympic Committee have denied any involvement with the NPC boss, Samson Deen accusing two persons of forging his signature to secure visas.
Reacting to the development, the Ranking Member on the Youth Sports and Culture Committee of Parliament, Kwabena Mensah Woyome describe the issue as another disgrace to the country.
He added that his committee will urgently begin probe into the matter.
“We have to invite those same entities to hear from them and ask the needed questions and see what the way forward is. And possibly request from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Minister himself and maybe the National Security Ministry to come and furnish us with better understanding into all of this. The embarrassment is one too many, you don’t do the shabby thing they did in the past. What are the lessons we have learnt, what are the things we need to do to ensure that we do not go back to situations like what has happened now. This we must nib in the bud.”
