The Ghana Police Service has restored calm in Walewale following a disruption during the vote-counting process in the ongoing re-run of the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Primary in the Walewale Constituency.

One person, identified as Kamara Bawah, has been arrested for causing damage to some ballot papers.

The suspect is in custody assisting Police investigation.

A terse statement issued by the Police Service indicated that security has been beefed up in the area.

“Security has since been strengthened within Walewale and its environs to ensure law and order,” it added.

The police were forced to fire warning shots in an attempt to protect the integrity of the governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary re-run in Walewale on Monday, September 9, 2024.
