NIB intercepts cocaine worth $350M from Takoradi to Accra

A huge consignment of cocaine, totaling 3.3 tonnes, has been intercepted by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on its way from the Western Region to Accra.
143 bags of cocaine were found hidden under sand in a tipper truck that was heading from Takoradi to Weija in Accra during the operation, which took place at Pedu Junction in Cape Coast on March 4, 2025.
The truck, carrying two people, was intercepted after the NIB’s intelligence gathering operations.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) verified the substance’s identity as raw cocaine by field testing.
The initial seizure weighed 2,974 kilograms.
Following intelligence-led operations on March 8, NIB officers were able to locate 13 more bags and one bag of suspected cocaine, totaling 345.07 kilograms, at a suspect’s home, according to a report by 3news.com.
The Ghana Standards Authority and NACOC laboratory tests once more verified that the 3,319.68 kg total shipment was high-quality cocaine with a purity range of 50% to 70%.
It is thought that the cocaine, which has a street worth of about $350 million, was brought into the nation by fishing vessels.
Isaac Quaicoe and Kenneth Cobbinah, two accused, have been placed under detention and are expected to return to court on April 2, 2025.
To make sure that everyone involved is held accountable, the NIB has identified more suspects who are presently at large and is working to get them arrested.
