National Security Minister to dragged before Parliament over NIB poll on NPP Running mate

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has indicated that he’ll haul the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah to Parliament over a survey conducted by the National Intelligence Bureau(NIB) which stated the preferred choice of a running mate for the Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The leaked survey conducted among NPP delegates projected the Minister for Energy Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh as the most preferred choice.

But the NIB has come under a heavy flak for acting out of its mandate to work for a political party.

Speaking on News File, North Tongu MP, Okudzeto Ablakwa who condemned the NIB for the work done said the State Intelligence agency must be made to explain its actions.

“If they want to conduct a poll on who best should be the running mate of an NPP candidate, there are so many organizations in this country. There are academics in the universities, go and engage them with your party money, dues from your members. Don’t use a state run organization, run with our taxes. This is abuse of office.

“How does choosing NAPO, Adutwum or whoever become relevant to the national security interest of our country. Serious mandate given to this body, and you go about conducting NPP polls with tax payers money? Ghana does not lack pollsters, credible ones at that. Take NPP money from NPP dues.”

The Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament further wondered how much money was spent on the survey.

“Now how much has been spent on this, look, in the coming days I am going to haul the National Security Minister to tell us which part of the law allows our internal security agency that should be protecting us from counter-terrorism rather conducting political polls. All the reports that I have seen as Ranking member on Foreign Affairs we ought to be worried.
