Mandatory health insurance policy for non-resident visitors not yet approved – Okoe Boye

The Ministry of Health has clarified that the recently announced mandatory health policy for non-Ghanaian resident visitors is a proposal from the National Health Insurance Policy and not a policy of government.

According to the Ministry, while the proposal aims to ensure that foreign national have access to healthcare during their stay in Ghana, it is important that ut has not yet been discussed or approved by Cabinet.

The Ministry in a statement signed by the Minister, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye urged the “public to disregard any misinformation that may suggest that the policy has been finalized and its mode of implementation settled.”

It added: “We assure the public that any policy and its implementation will be thoroughly scrutinized and taken through all necessary protocols to establish its benefits for the people of Ghana before being settled on.”
