Mahama tells Akufo-Addo: Your office is the headquarters of misinformation

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) John Mahama Mahama has described President Akufo-Addo office as the headquarters for churning out fake news into the public space.

According to John Mahama, the Flagstaff House has a penchant for putting out misinformation on the various social media platforms.

Speaking during his for day tour of the Upper East Region, Mr Mahama asked President Akufo-Addo to clean his house first before complaining about misinformation.

“Recently there was a conference on misinformation, they call it the Ghana Report Summit and it spoke about misinformation and disinformation. New we have the new media that covers WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and all of them. Yesterday I went to Bawku Naaba’s palace and he spoke about the issue of carving out another region to encompass the six constituencies in this area. I explained that there were constitutional issues that had to be gone through and the criteria was economic viability, land size and population. Aside of that, a petition must be sent, a commission of inquiry must be set to look at the visibility of creating a region. In the evening I saw a fake news story misrepresenting completely what I said and trying to put me against the Mamprugu state. I never mentioned Mamprugu at all, I was just comparing land size and economic viability and all that.

“The president condemned misinformation and he used the Agyapadie document as an example of misinformation. Probably, what the president doesn’t know is that his office, the Flagstaff House is the headquarters of misinformation. That is where the fake stories misrepresent what people have said and feed it into the social media. His own officer is where they do that and so he should clean his house first before he talks about misinformation in other places,” Mahama said.
