I turned down Cheddar’s offer to be running mate because I’ve invested in Jomoro – Samia
Former Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Nkrumah, has disclosed why she declined to partner Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, as his running mate for the December 7 general elections when she was approached.
There were rumours that the young business mogul turned politician who is the leader of the New Force Movement had settled on the daughter of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as running mate for the impending crucial elections.
When Samia Nkrumah appeared on Starr FM in an interview, the former Member of Parliament was asked to confirm or otherwise if she was indeed approached by Nana Kwame Bediako.
She responded: “Yes, Cheddar did, but I told him that I have invested too much in Jomoro. I believe Nkrumah’s tradition must be represented in parliament in that decision making body. Because as it is today, it not with that clarity and conviction so, yes, I have invested too much and I think I want to see that happen,” Samia said.
Asked if she believes in Nana Kwame Bediako’s ideology and whether he has what it takes to occupy the highest office of the land, Samia responded: “I believe many Ghanaians have what it takes inside and outside politics. Now we know what our priorities are, I think most of us do, so I believe many Ghanaians have the right mindset and know what should be done. But politics is a different thing. Vying for political power, I think you have to do it with a strategic aim.”
