I nearly took my life when I arrived in USA – Musician Millicent Yankey
Ghanaian gospel musician based in the United States of America, Millicent Yankey has opened up on her life experience in the US.
According to her, she struggled to be able get to the US where her parents were residing.
The gifted musician with a powerful voice in an interview with MC Ogee on New York-based Adinkra Radio entertainment show on Sunday revealed that upon settling in the US, she almost took her own life after going through lots of struggles.
“You know that in Ghana, many of us yearn to leave the country and travel to the US thinking that life out there in the country is rosy. But when I arrived in the US, a whole lot of things started happening in my life. I now wanted to go back to Ghana, the same country that I so much prayed about to leave. It got to a point that I nearly killed myself. Had it not been that when I go to buy drugs to end my life I would be asked questions at the pharmacy or drug store, I would have bought the drugs and killed myself during those difficult period. It was that bad. That was during COVID and I used to cry a lot. The stress, depression was to much for me to bear. I mean things were really tough for me and the problems I was encountering were coming from close quarters.”
Millicent Yankey however, further revealed that in her difficult moments, God ministered to her and she gained strength to compose songs which have been a blessing to others who are going through such challenging times.
