‘I look forward to appearing before the Appointments Committee’ – Barker-Vormawo
Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has expressed his readiness to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, to address allegations of bribery he levelled against its members.
The summons follows a social media post by Barker-Vormawor, which triggered widespread public debate and raised questions about the integrity of the parliamentary vetting process.
In a Facebook post responding to the committee’s invitation to provide evidence for his claims, Barker-Vormawor stated: “This is how democracy improves. I look forward to appearing before the Appointments Committee tomorrow. Thank You.”
The activist’s allegations made public shortly before a vetting session, accused unnamed members of the committee of engaging in corrupt practices.
The claims have since dominated public discourse, with calls for greater transparency and accountability in the vetting process.
Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee and 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as baseless and harmful to the credibility of the committee’s work.
In response to the accusations, Mr. Ahiafor directed the Clerk of the Committee to summon Barker-Vormawor to appear before the committee to present evidence to substantiate his claims.
