Three leading members of the Peoples National Convention(PNC) have raised concerns with some issues about the party’s upcoming National Congress slated for August 31, 2024.
The petitioners, former National Chairman, Bernard Mornah, 2020 Flagbearer Aspirant Samson Asaki Awingobit and 2020Flagbearer Aspirant and Rev.Samuel Adjei Debrah say the Flagbearer filing fee of GHC100,000 is too much for a party which is struggling to be on its feet.
According to them, the PNC is a party for the marginalized in society and the stated amount gives the impression that the party is no different from the other parties.
They also noted that the timelines of August 31, 2024 seems too far looking at the time left for the General Elections and that third or fourth week of August for Congress will not help the party because the Electoral Commission will open nominations in September and that will give the party undue pressure.
The trio of leading members observed it would appear that after the Congress, the Party will have barely eighty nine (89) days for effective execution.
“The August 31, 2024 will not favor our members (Ga – Adangbe) from the Greater Accra Region since the period will conflict with their Annual Homowo Festival. There are also no Guidelines accompanying the announcement of Congress and its scheduled fees. This is unusual. It is prudent to know the Dos and Don’ts of the Congress. When are nominations opened and when are prospective candidates expected to return completed forms.
“The said announcement of the timelines and fees did not come with the usual composition of relevant Committees to aid the work of the party,” they said in a petition addressed to Col. George Bayebor, Chairman of PNC Council of Elders, Hon. David Apasera (2020 Flagbearer) and all NEC members.
They therefore appealed to the leadership of the party to look into these issues and speedily remedy the lacunas in the earlier communication.
