Ghana population hits 33 million; projected to reach 52.47 million by 2024

Ghana’s population has crossed the 33 million mark and is expected to reach 52.47 million by 2050, according to latest projections by the Ghana Statistical Service.

Ghana’s population at the end of the 2021 population and housing census was 30.8 million, but the statistical service says between 2021 and 2030, 711,706 persons will be added to the population each year, pushing the population 37.24 million by 2030.

This, the, service says will deepen the population pressure on Greater Accra by 2030.

Ghana by 2050 is also expected to see its population above 60 years, rising to 10.8% from the current 6.5%

Meanwhile, Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim says the latest projections emphasize the need to renewed conversations around the age of retirement.
