GHAMRO: Diana Hopeson disappointing – Akosua Agyapong
Akosua Agyapong has expressed disappointment in gospel singer Diana Hopeson over “mismanagement” at the Musicians’ Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).
According to the ‘Eka bi nie’ hitmaker, Diana Hopeson did not cater for the welfare of musicians when she served as president of MUSIGA.
Currently serving as the second Vice-Chairperson at GHAMRO, Diana Hopeson, in Akosua Agyapong’s view, is “still not doing anything for musicians”.
Speaking to Docta Kay on Accra100.5FM’s drive time show, Nkran Kwanso on Thursday, 1 October 2020, the “Frema” singer said: “Also, there is a woman there who has disappointed me, Diana Hopeson. Diana has really disappointed me because she is a woman. And to start with, she went to run the Musicians’ union as president and we didn’t see what you did. We didn’t see what Diana did for musicians.”
Diana Hopeson served a four-year tenure as MUSIGA president from 2007 to 2011.
Akosua Agypaong also described fellow highlife artiste Rex Omar as the “worst-ever GHAMRO Board Chairman,” adding that contrary to thoughts that things will be better under his leadership, things have been worse.
“When Carlos was in charge, you [Rex Omar] were on several media platforms criticising, so, we thought that given the chance, you will do better. Rather, the situation is gone from bad to worse,” she said
“As for Rex, I will say it again and again that among all of them, Rex is the worst GHAMRO chairman ever,” she added.
Akosua Agyapong, who has constantly trumpeted the rot at the royalty collection and distribution company, laid forth her intentions to run GHAMRO because she has realised that “something is amiss somewhere.”
