Foreigners involved in galamsey and fraud will be deported, not prosecuted – Interior Minister

Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak has announced that the NDC government is not interested in prosecuting foreigners engaged in fraud and illegal mining activities across the country

terior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak has announced that the NDC government is not interested in prosecuting foreigners engaged in fraud and illegal mining activities across the country.

He says the government is rather putting in place a new policy which will see the deportation of such individuals upon their arrest.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the Interior Minister stressed the government is focused on removing foreign nationals who participate in galamsey, which has caused extensive environmental damage across the country.

He also indicated that such individuals who are also arrested engaging in scamming and other fraudulent activities will also face the same punishment.

The announcement is at the back of recent efforts made to deport some 107 foreign nationals who were arrested for allegedly destroying forest reserves and water bodies through illegal mining activities and fraud-related offenses.

According to Muntaka Mubarak, this effort underscores the government’s focus on curbing the influence of foreign nationals, including Chinese nationals, in illegal mining and fraudulent practices.
