Direct your supporters to leave collation centres – EC tells political parties
The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the leadership of various political parties, especially the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to direct their members to leave the collation centers across the country.
According to the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey, this will allow them to freely carry out the collation and announcement of results.
Nearly ten hours after voting ended, the EC is yet to declare the results of the elections in the various constituencies.
Both the NDC and the NPP, in their respective press conferences earlier, asked their members to move to the various collation centers to protect their ballots.
Counting and the declaration of results at polling stations are currently underway following the closure of polls at 5 p.m. across most polling centers in the country.
The 2024 elections were conducted across 276 constituencies nationwide, with the process being largely peaceful.
However, isolated incidents of violence have been reported, including the confirmation of one death in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region.
The Electoral Commission has urged Ghanaians and political parties to exercise patience as it fulfills its mandate of delivering a successful election.
