Chef Smith’s Guinness World Record certificate for longest cook-a-thon is FAKE

The Guinness World Records has denied reports that it has awarded Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith, a certificate for setting a new record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Chef Smith at a press conference at the La Palm Beach Hotel today, Tuesday, July 2 claimed he now holds the enviable world record.

Chef Smith started his cook-a-thon journey on February 1, 2024. He cooked for 820 hours, ending his marathon on March 6, 2024 even though he initially targeted 1,200 hours.

At the press conference, he showed his record certificate with the inscription which reads: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”

Speaking at the news conference, Chef Smith said, “I am deeply humbled and honored to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon”.

However, a check conducted by EIB Network Journalist, Edem Kojo with Guinness World Record has proven that the claim by Chef Smith is false.

The record certificate he showed has turned out to be fake, with Guinness World Record stating that “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate.”
