Cecilia Dapaah saga: Domelevo, Kpebu,100 others petition Parliament to probe EOCO’s conduct
Some eminent Ghanaians including former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo and Prof. Ransford Gyampo have petitioned Parliament to set up a bipartisan probe into the conduct of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in the investigation regarding the huge amount of money found in the home of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.
The over 100 members of the group which include Security analyst Adam Bonaa, Lawyers Martin Kpebu and Justice Abdulai and others from different fields of endeavours, in their petition claim that because the former minister has been erratic and unable to disclose the source for the substantial sum of money that the Special Prosecutor seized from her home, EOCO had more than sufficient reason to look into her for money laundering.
“The failure to explain the source of the money should have been the cornerstone of the investigation,” the petition which was submitted to Parliament on Thursday, May 16, 2024, noted among others.
Concerns were also expressed regarding what the group perceived to be EOCO’s purposeful failure to take action to safeguard the funds that the OSP had taken from the former minister’s home.
“Upon receipt of the docket, EOCO did not act timeously to seize the money that the OSP was returning to Madam Cecilia Dapaah as publicly stated by the OSP”.
The petition further stated that EOCO’s public remarks and actions during the probe have been inconsistent.
