C/R: Transport fare increment brouhaha: Kasoa drivers clash with Police, 3 arrested
Some commercial drivers at Kasoa – Tema Station at Kasoa in the Central Region, have clashed with Police personnel leading to the arrest of three people, including the Station master.
This follows misunderstanding between some passengers and drivers on Wednesday over increase in transport fare.
A recent press release by Concerned Drivers Association and other transport unions indicated that transport fares are expected to go up on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
But some drivers at Kasoa ahead of the effective date have started charging the new transport fares, resulting in serious misunderstanding between drivers and some passengers at the Tema Station at Kasoa.
Journalist, Alex Donkor reported that a report was lodged at Kasoa overhead Police Station(Central Business District) following which the Station Master was arrested.
But his arrest forced over 50 drivers to storm the station to demand his release.
In the event, some drivers assaulted a police officer which created huge tension leading to the arrest of 3 people.
The police have indicated that the suspects will be prosecuted if found guilty after investigation.
