Ashanti region: EC, Police hold crucial meeting ahead of Council of State election

Ahead of Monday’s Council of State election in the Ashanti Region, the Electoral Commission (EC), the Ghana Police Service, and candidates on Sunday February 16, held a crucial meeting to resolve all outstanding concerns.

Following intense closed-door discussions, the Electoral Commission, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the candidates, successfully addressed all lingering issues ahead of the highly anticipated election on Monday, February 17.

The EC has officially designated Prempeh Assembly Hall as the venue for the election.

Speaking to Channel One News after the meeting, Frederick Adjei expressed satisfaction with the resolution, though he acknowledged that he is still recovering from the chaos that erupted earlier.

On the same day, Ashanti Regional leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held a press briefing, issuing a strong warning that they would hold key security officials—including the Inspector General of Police, security agencies, and the chairman of the Regional Security Council—accountable for any further disruptions.

This follows the turmoil that erupted during the previous election on February 11, 2025, at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.

Meanwhile, Michael Afrane, spokesperson for Nana Gyedu Kumanin IV, exclusively revealed to Channel One News that his candidate has endorsed Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, reducing the number of contenders from 12 to 11.
