The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi East Constituency, Ernest Frimpong, has been released by the Tarkwa Police Command in the Western Region.
His release on Wednesday evening was after the police took a statement from him concerning his comments in a viral video urging miners to resist and fight police officers and soldiers who attempt to arrest them while working at their mining sites.
Ernest Frimpong has denied the claims insisting that he did not encourage illegal mining or incite miners to fight military personnel.
He claimed that his remarks were taken out of context from a two-hour engagement with artisanal small-scale miners and stressed that his intentions were misrepresented.
