Afcon 2025Q: No issue regarding conflict of interest – Sannie Daara on Appiah’s dual roles

Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has played down the issue regarding conflict of interest over Kwasi Appiah’s dual roles.

Appiah is in charge of Sudan national team who will face Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The former Ghana coach also serves as a member on the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council.

The roles of working for two different Associations in the same competition is seen as concerning by many including ace football analyst, Osei Owusu Bempah who called for his resignation.

However, Sannie, who is a CAF Media Officer, insists Appiah can recuse himself on the seat of the Ghana FA until the qualifiers are done.

“I don’t see the issue that people have been raising. There’s always a case where people can recuse themselves from such discussion and it should be a straight forward case,” he said in an interview with JoySports.

“Kwasi Appiah being there in charge of Sudan and also being in the Exco will add a lot of good to Ghana football.

“The learning experiences he will have in Sudan, he will bring it back as a Ghanaian to impact on Ghana football. If there are any issues of conflict of interest, he can recuse himself from those meetings.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana FA has told JoySports of intending to consult FIFA over the situation and work “with what they say”.

Ghana will begin the qualifiers in September, 2024 against Angola before facing Niger and subsequently Sudan.
