Be cautious with sole-sourced contracts – Avedzi advises Mahama

Former Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, James Klutse Avedzi, has cautioned President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration against sole-source contracts.

He noted that sole-sourced contracts are breeding grounds for corruption.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the National Economic Dialogue, Avedzi stressed that rigorous scrutiny of sole-sourced contracts is essential in the fight against corruption.

“Procurement authority should not grant any approval for any request, road construction, or what kind of procurement. If the [requirements] for sole sourcing approval are not there. Don’t do it. So mister president can check that out. If there’s a procurement which has gone against the procurement law, where the conditions under our sole sourcing are not present and the procurement authority granted anything of that nature, then those procurement authority must be highly responsible.

“Mr. president should also not allow or agree that any minister or any government official coming to him requesting for sole sourcing for a project if those conditions that are to be present before sourcing is granted. If those conditions are not there, the president should not agree.”
