My leaked video got me depressed – Serwaa Amihere

Serwaa Amihere, a Ghanaian broadcaster, has recently shared a personal account of the emotional toll she experienced after the circulation of an intimate video involving her last year.

Recounting how the incident impacted her life at the Ignite Youth Empowerment Thanksgiving Service, she detailed the challenges she faced, particularly her struggle with depression, and the pivotal role her close friend, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, played in helping her through the difficult time.

Appreciating the immense support shown by her friend, she mentioned, “I was depressed and crying at home that day,” she revealed. “Then she came and said, ‘Let’s go and buy ice cream.’ I wasn’t talking to anyone, but she came to pick me up. She took me to Osu, and I remember trying to wear a cap. She asked, ‘Why? Why do you want to hide your face? Let’s go.’ She bought me a big cup of ice cream and said, ‘Today, eat all the ice cream you can.’”

Serwaa expressed profound gratitude to Obuobia for her support, adding, “And she said she would take me out for lunch the next day. Somehow, we both ended up cancelling. But Auntie Obuobia, thank you because I never told you how grateful I was for that ride. It did me a lot of good.”

Reflecting on the challenging year, Serwaa used the opportunity to caution young people about the long-term consequences of their actions. “I went through an extremely difficult year last year,” she said. “I’m not old. I’m still young, but I’m older than many of you here, and I am repeating, be extremely careful about the decisions you make, because years later, they’ll come back and bite you hard in the face. That’s exactly what happened to me last year.”

She also praised Obuobia for her unwavering kindness and support, calling her “an amazing person.” She concluded with a heartfelt message, saying, “She supports me and my sister and is always advising me. So thank you. I love you very much.”

The video, which surfaced on April 2, 2024, ignited a media frenzy and led to an independent investigation by Serwaa’s employer, EIB Network. On July 5, 2024, the network released a statement confirming that its investigation found “no form of misconduct or breaches” on Serwaa’s part.
