Mahama appoints Sammy Gyamfi as PMMC acting MD
President John Dramani Mahama has appointed the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
This appointment, effective January 16, 2025, tasks Mr. Gyamfi with the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key promise in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, announced the appointment, highlighting the administration’s commitment to economic revitalisation and sustainable development through the GoldBod initiative.
Mandate
The GoldBod, under the direction of the Minister for Finance, is one of the top priorities of the Mahama administration aimed at economic revitalisation.
It will be responsible for the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources for the benefit of the Ghanaian people.
The board’s responsibilities will include formalising the small-scale gold mining sector and providing mining support services for the industry.
Profile
Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, a lawyer and Economic Policy Analyst, holds a BSc in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Law from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
He also holds a Barrister at Law certificate from the Ghana School of Law and an MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana.
Additionally, he is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School with Executive Certificates in the Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership Programmes.
Mr. Gyamfi has previously worked with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a reputable mining company in Ghana, and currently serves as the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress.
His extensive background and expertise are expected to contribute significantly to the successful establishment and operation of the Ghana Gold Board.
