NPP dismisses Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison, 279 others

The Agona West Constituency branch of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled 280 members, including incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Cynthia Morrison, with immediate effect from December 16, 2024.

The decision, taken unanimously at an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting on December 15, 2024, imposes an indefinite ban on the expelled individuals. They are prohibited from representing themselves as party members, holding any party position, attending or participating in NPP meetings or activities, and using party symbols or flags.

The expulsion follows multiple complaints from party members accusing the affected individuals of contesting as independent candidates, aligning with rival political parties, or supporting independent candidates during the recent parliamentary election.

In a statement dated December 16, Constituency Chairman Alhaji Gibrine Tanko noted that the NPP constitution necessitates such measures to safeguard discipline and foster unity within the party.
