NPP demands immediate prosecution of EC official over electoral offence
The Communications Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has condemned the actions of an Electoral Commission (EC) official involved in electoral misconduct.
He is advocating for the prompt prosecution of the EC official accused of the wrongdoing.
His comments come on the back of an official of the Electoral Commission in Kintampo South in the Bono East region, who was arrested by the police for electoral offences in the ongoing 2024 general election.
The suspect, whose name is given as Dery Joseph, according to the police, is under investigation for issuing about 15 ballots to voters that omitted the first presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, at the Ampesika Bayere polling station.
Addressing journalists in Accra on December 7, Miracles proposed punishment for the suspect to deter others from committing the same offence, describing the incident as “worrying and sad.”
“This is a very worrying situation, it’s a very sad situation, and it’s something that we need to condemn. The NPP is calling for Joseph Dery’s immediate prosecution. Because whatever he has done is a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise Ghanaian voters.”
He encouraged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and party agents at the various polling stations to be vigilant to thwart any future occurrences.
