PNC endorses NDC ahead of December 7 general elections
John Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has received the official endorsement of the People’s National Convention (PNC) for the December elections.
After consulting with the members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Functional Executive Committee (FEC), National Chairman Samson Awingobit made the announcement at a press event on Wednesday, November 27.
“Nine days to the general election, the PNC not having a presidential candidate cannot sit neutral for that matter, as a National Chairman, in consultation with the leader, we’ve invited NEC – that is our regional representative made up of the Chairmen and regional secretaries including FEC (Functional Executive Committee) members.
“At the end of deliberation, we discussed and we collectively – the majority have declared that the PNC will throw our support for the NDC presidential candidate for the 2024 elections,” he said.
Mr. Awingobit explained that the PNC’s support for John Mahama and the NDC over other presidential candidates is intended to ensure cooperation between the PNC and the future government that the NDC will build.
Due to mistakes in its nomination forms, the Electoral Commission (EC) rejected the PNC and ten other parties from the presidential contest.
Even though the courts rejected the party’s lawsuit against the EC, the PNC has reaffirmed its dedication to meaningful political engagement
