Nana Akomea fires Mahama over ‘cooked polls’ comment
Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign Team, has criticised former President John Mahama for dismissing opinion polls unfavorable to him as “cooked.”
Mahama recently mocked the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he referred to as “fake opinion polls” intended to mislead Ghanaians. According to him, the government is unnerved by credible surveys predicting an NDC victory and has resorted to fabricating figures to boost its own image.
While addressing supporters during his campaign tour in the North East Region, the former President argued that polls favoring the NPP lack credibility and cannot be attributed to reputable organizations, unlike those projecting an NDC win.
However, speaking on Peace FM in comments monitored by GhanaWeb, Nana Akomea, a former Minister of Information, criticized Mahama for what he described as inconsistency and selective acceptance of poll results.
“Ex-President Mahama is claiming some polls are cooked? The polls that claim you are winning the election — are those not cooked? Why do you only refer to the ones not in your favor as cooked? Look at the abysmal performance of your government when you were seeking another term in office: four and a half years of dumsor [persistent power outages], a struggling economy, and an IMF bailout.
“At that time, you told Ghanaians that anyone who has not been a president before cannot criticize you. Even today, you claim other presidential candidates are not at your level. If Ghanaians make the mistake of electing Mahama as President again, the consequences will be dire. His past economic performance is evidence enough, and now that he’s eligible for only one term, it could be worse.
“He previously declared himself a ‘dead goat’ and ignored the concerns of Ghanaians. Voters should make a wise decision not to return Mahama to power. If the polls favor him, he should accept them. If they favor us, we’ll also accept them. He should stop labeling some polls as cooked simply because they don’t favor him.”
