Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shared how some persons in the party hatched an evil plan to kill him.
Speaking in an interview on GhanaWeb TV, Chief Bugri Naabu denied allegations made by Nana Ohene Ntow, a former general secretary of the party, that he threatened to kill him and other leading members of the party for not supporting Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s presidential ambitions.
He said he was rather a target for elimination by the criminals when he had done no wrong.
The experienced politician said his detractors planned to trap and kill him in Tamale, but they failed to take his life.
“It is funny; you don’t feel ashamed for you to say that I wanted to kill you. After all, there were plans to eliminate me, Chief Bugri Naabu, Adam Mahama, Upper East Regional Chairman, and Alhaji Short, Upper West Regional Chairman. If they do not eliminate us, they will not get their way, so we saw it, not that we didn’t see it. Today, where is Adam? What happened to Adam, we all know. It was acid they poured on Adam. So, if I say you want to kill me, but that will never happen, does that mean that I would rather kill you?
“If I were not careful, I would have also been killed. Because the same group planned the acid attack on me, Alhaji Short, and Adam. I remember that in Tamale, the group organized themselves, and I heard that there were some people in town who wanted to take my life, so I should make sure I did not go out.
“Truly, they went to one of the biggest hotels in Tamale and called me to come and said that there were some visitors who had come from Accra and they wanted me to meet the visitors. I asked them who the visitors were, but they could not tell me who they were. All they could say is that there are some two girls who are party members. I asked them to mention their names, but they could not, and I told them that I was not coming that day,” he said.
Chief Bugri Naabu continued that after they failed to get him to the hotel, they followed him to his home in a bid to execute their evil plan.
“They came with a motorcycle to my gate and wanted to force and enter. It was the people who will live around me who stopped them, and it turned into a heated argument. So, he shouldn’t have mentioned it; he knew what they were doing, and that is what they were able to achieve by eliminating Adam Mahama.”
