Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association calls off intended strike
The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA) has announced the suspension of its intended strike which was scheduled for Wednesday 10th July over the implementation of 5% Excise Tax on all locally manufactured plastic products.
According to the Association, it has also put on hold its intended plan to shut-down productions.
The Association explained that it’s decision follows a fruitful discussion it and its Partners, the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), the National Association of Sachet & Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP), the Food & Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG), the Plastic Sellers Association of Ghana (PSAG) had with the government on Friday the 5th of July, 2024 on the Excise tax.
The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association in a statement expressed its appreciation to the Deputy Minister for Ministry of Trade and Industry, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi for his intervention.
“The Hon. Deputy Minister for Ministry of Trade & Industry, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi (MP) has shown good faith and has assured us that, he will facilitate further engagements and dialogue with Government and also immediately trigger the necessary mechanisms and procedures to stop the implementation of the 5% Excise Tax,” the statement said.
