None of my appointees will buy a state asset – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) John Dramani Mahama has stated emphatically that all his appointees in a future NDC government will be barred from buying any state asset.

“If you agree to serve, you must serve and not have other side businesses and do other things. You must not go and buy state properties. Anybody serving in my government will not be allowed to buy a state asset. Nobody body serving in my government will buy a state asset. Vehicles, cars, buildings, or lands or anything,” Mr Mahama said in an engagement with the media on Sunday July 7, 2024 in Accra.

According to the former President, it will not be “business as usual” in his next government adding that his appointees will not be allowed to live an ostentatious life.

“We will cut out waste we will cut out opulence and we will bring a code of conduct for public appointees especially political appointees in how they behave in terms of their modesty, in terms of their humility. Your appointment to that office is an opportunity to serve, it is not an opportunity to lord it over the people.

Mr Mahama added: “And so, our political appointees should change their attitude and so that is what we are going to insist on. That the people that we appoint are modest, humble and open up to the people and they will do the things that will make the lives of our young people better. And so we are going to hold them to a higher criteria of service than people have been held to in the past.”
