We must prevent Kenyan-style protests in Ghana – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has stressed how important it is for Ghanaians to prevent a Kenya-like disturbance in Ghana.

Kenya has been hit with series of protests by the citizens after the government introduced bew taxes. The demonstrations ended in some fatalities. President William Ruto subsequently suspended the new taxes.

Mr Mahama who minced no words in condemning President Akufo-Addo’s mismanagement of the economy said the next NDC government will create numerous opportunities, especially for the unemployed youth.

Speaking during a working visit to the La Dadekotopon constituency on July 5, Mahama stated, “They say Africa’s population is youthful and it’s important to have a youthful population. But if you have a youthful population and you’re not creating opportunities for them, then it can become a timebomb.

“We have all seen what is happening in Kenya, we don’t want that to happen in Ghana. And so, when we come, things are going to be different. It’s not going to be business as usual; we want to be a government in a hurry to repair the mess created by Bawumia and Akufo-Addo.

“The people of Ghana are looking at NDC to come and rescue them from the hardships in which they have been plunged…We will do things that will turn the economy around as quickly as possible.”
