Ghana’s COVID-19 death toll now 261; active cases fall to 1,723
The death of five more COVID-19 patients has taken Ghana’s national fatality count to 261, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye has said.
Ghana case fatality rate is currently 0.6 per cent.
Also, 166 new cases have been recorded taking the national tally to 43,216.
“Greater Accra reported the highest with 76 new cases from 15 districts. The majority of them are coming from Ayawaso West and Korle Klottey. Ayawaso West is where most of the hotels are where the new returnees are being tested, so, it tends to give us a relatively higher number than the rest of the districts in Greater Accra.
“Eastern Region reported 48 new cases from 10 districts; the majority from Abuaka North and Atiwa West. Ashanti had 27 new cases from four districts, mainly from Kumasi metro. The Northern Region had eight new cases from Tamale, Tatale and Sanguri. The Western Region had seven new cases from Effia Kwesimintsim, Takoradi and Tarkwa Nsuaem, the usual places where we’ve been having cases”.
They were recorded in 36 districts within five regions.
Eleven of the regions did not record any new cases despite samples having been taken and tested, Dr Kuma Aboagye noted at a press briefing on Thursday, 20 August 2020.
The total number of clinical recoveries so far is 41,279.
This mean, there are 1,723 active cases.
Currently, Upper East, Upper West, North East and Savannah regions have no active cases, Dr Kuma-Aboagye said.
So far, 431,272 tests have been conducted.
The GHS D-G said from early July, the cases have been declining throughout the country.
