86,000 passports uncollected – Senior Presidential Advisor
The Senior Presidential Advisor, Hon Yaw Osafo Marfo has expressed concern about the huge numbers of uncollected passports at the various passport centers in the country.
Speaking during an Update on Results Achieved under the Public Sector Reform Project, the Senior Presidential Advisor revealed that a total of 86,000 passports remain uncollected, a situation he describes as problematic.
He indicated that people are so anxious to do everything they can to get a passport, but would hesitate to collect the booklet after printing.
Yaw Osafo Marfo revealed that centers such as Takoradi with over 8,000 uncollected passport booklets, Cape Coast has 8,696, whereas Accra has the highest uncollected passport booklets with over 19,500.
Osafo Marfo said the government has subsidized the acquisition of passport at a cost of $4, when it must have been at original cost of $100.
However, he lamented the debt these subsidization of the passport booklets would cost the government.
