2024 Elections: You will pay for your actions – Mahama warns soldiers deployed to cause mayhem

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) John Dramani Mahama has cautioned some military personnel who have allegedly been deployed to cause chaos and stop the declaration of parliamentary results in some constituencies.

In a Facebook post, the former President warned that these soldiers will be held to account for their actions.

“My attention has been drawn to the violent activities of some unscrupulous military personnel, deployed to cause mayhem and disrupt the declaration of parliamentary results in some constituencies.

This is to caution the personnel involved that they will be held individually liable and responsible for their actions.” the statement said.

Counting at polling stations have concluded following the closure of polls at 5 p.m. What is left is the declaration of results at the various constituencies.

The 2024 elections were conducted across 276 constituencies nationwide, with the process being largely peaceful.

However, isolated incidents of violence have been reported, including the confirmation of two deaths in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region and Awutu Senya East Constituency in the Central Region.

The Electoral Commission has urged Ghanaians and political parties to exercise patience as it fulfills its mandate of delivering a successful election.
