2024 Elections: Ghanaians in New York call for peace before, during and after election

Ghanaians residing in New York, United States, have called for peace to prevail before, during, and after the December 7, 2024, general elections.

According to them, the nation must not descend into chaos over the simple exercise of electing a president and members of parliament to govern the country for the next four years.

Speaking to Adinkra Radio morning show host, Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang, during the Adinkra Heroes Award Night 2024, the interviewees stressed the importance of maintaining peace, noting that without it, development is impossible.

One of them stated, “Ghana is the only country we have; hence, we must not destroy it because of elections. Despite our different political preferences, we are one people. We must prioritise peace in all our actions to ensure we continue to live together harmoniously and develop our country.”

Another added, “Ghanaians must avoid actions that could lead to chaos during the elections. Whoever is elected as President will work for Ghana. We must also change our attitude and support the new leader in the best way we can. Ghana must not burn because of elections.”

A third person commented, “NPP and NDC— we are all one people. We must approach this election with peace, love, and understanding. Whoever wins the election should be accepted for the good of the country.”

Ghana will go to the polls on December 7 to elect a president and 276 parliamentarians to lead the country for the next four years.

As usual, the general election is expected to be a two-horse race between the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
