2024 Election: Older people supporting digitalization policy than the youth – Global InfoAnalytics Boss

The Executive Director and Head of Global Research at Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa K. Dankwah, has revealed that going into the December 7 general election, his organization’s survey shows a sharp contrast in the age divide when it comes to supporting the digitization policy.

Speaking on GHOne TV on Monday during Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network’s launch of #Election Hub [election 2024 coverage], Mussa Dankwah said a lot more older people are supporting the digitalization policy than the younger people.

“You have to analyze the responses of people who believe in digitization and those who believe in the 24-hour economy policy and those who believe in GTP policy and how they are voting. First, we asked them how they are voting and which of the flagship programmes they support. About 42% support digitalization, 35% support the 24-hour economy, and then about 7% support the GTP.

“Now when you look at who you want to vote for, then you see some people supporting digitalization but voting for John Mahama. Some are supporting the 24-hour economy policy but voting for Bawumia. But over all, the 24-hour economy policy is liked by many voters, and they are voting for Mahama because of that, and those who like the digitalization policy are voting for Bawumia because of that. Now, there’s a sharp contrast in the age divide when it comes to digitalization. You realize that there are a lot more older people supporting the digitalization policy, than the younger people.”

Musah Dankwah explained what could account for older people rather than endorsing the digitization policy.

“I think for some of them, with what they used to go out and do, they can now do it from their home. And then maybe the reason why younger people are not backing that policy is that their priority is jobs. Unless Bawumia is able to link digitalization to job creation to connect their problem, it means you have provided a solution that is not a priority for the voter that you are targeting right now. For them, it is about jobs, so how is your policy of digitalization going to create jobs now and in the future? If you can’t do that, then there will be a disconnect between that policy and what the youth are looking for.”
